Building vs Buying | dejong Homes

Its the debate many couples have each week – building vs buying. Which should you do?  Home ownership is the Australian dream. Building that home would be a close second I’d say. There are positives and negatives to building a brand new home, just as there is for buying an established home. You need to sit down and really think about which is best for you and your family.

Here are 7 reasons why you should build a new home and put to rest the building vs buying debate once and for all.

 1. Little Maintenance
Spend your free time with family and friends and not on home maintenance – sounds good doesn’t it? New homes require little to no maintenance for the first for few years at least. Any repairs that may come up in those first few years will probably be covered under warranties which established homes don’t come with. Building a new home means you can just move in and enjoy, not worrying about what needs to be changed and fixed.

2. Government Grants
There are many attractive government grants available when building a brand new home. There may also be stamp duty concessions available depending on what state or territory you live in. You will need to contact your financial institution who will be able to advise you on what is available. There are some grants that are only available when building a new home, not buying established so consider these when crunching numbers.

3. Building Your Dreams
Designing a home that is perfect for your family is exciting. You can get exactly what you want within your budget and you can pick all your finishes and colours to ensure your new home represents your personal style. Y

4. New Technology
As life becomes more and more dependent on technology, we are seeing huge advancements in home technology as well. From security systems, home entertainment and home networking, it is much easier to install these in new homes then older homes. Older homes will often feature old style fixtures and lighting which can be costly to replace. New homes can be fitted out with the latest in fixtures saving you money in the long run.

5. Better Insulation
New homes have better insulation than older homes saving you money on heating and cooling costs over time. Same with windows, you can choose to have double glazing on windows that face west whereas on established older homes, this feature may be missing.

6. Thinking Green.
If you are wanting to live in a home that is green, energy efficient and has sustainable features, than building new is the best way to go. You can incorporate all these features at the design stage. Trying to change a old home to a energy efficient home is quite hard, expensive and in some cases – impossible.

7. Investment Opportunity.
When it is time for you to sell and move on, newer home are far more attractive to buyers than older homes. If you choose to rent out your home, you will be able to set a higher rent.

Are you considering building a new home? We hope that these 7 reasons have convinced you to do it!
